Creating a Fabric Using 3Ds Max Cloth



Hello again...In this tutorial I will show you how to create a table cover using 3ds max cloth modifier. With a cloth modifier, you can make another object like a bed cover, fabric, paper, clothes, etc. For this tutorial I'm gonna make a table cover as a sample object. Let’s go to step 1.

1. Create a 'Cylinder', set its 'Parameters', 'Radius:50' and 'Height:50'. In this tutorial I'm gonna make this cylinder as the table. You can use another object too for the table, for example you can use a real fix table, sphere or box. To make it clear, rename this 'Cylinder' as a ‘Table’.

2. On top viewport, create a plane with 'Length:120' and 'Width:120'. Sets the segment of the plane too, more segment is better to get smooth result for the cloth surface. In this tutorial I'll set the 'Length Segments to 30' and 'Width Segments into 30'.  To make it clear, rename this cylinder as a ‘Cover’.

3. Move the ‘Cover’ above and centered the ‘Table’.

4. Select the ‘Cover’, go to modifier menu and select ‘Cloth’.

5. Select the ‘Cloth’ modifier and click object properties. In ‘Object Properties’ panel, click ‘Add Object’ and select the ‘Table’. See Pic. 05.

6. In ‘Object Properties’ panel, select the ‘Cover’ and set its parameters. See Pic.06.

7. In ‘Object Properties’ panel, select the ‘Table’ and set its parameters. See Pic.07.

8. Select the ‘Cloth’ modifier and click ‘Simulate’ button. Do some experiment by modifying the ‘Simulation Parameters’ to get best result.

9. Select the ‘Cover’, and convert it to an editable poly. Apply the ‘TurboSmooth’ modifier to get more softer. After that, assign a fabric 'Material' from the material library then add the 'Unwrap UVW' modifier, here’s my result in pic. 09.
